Rotterdam - Hull: the route from Hull
P&O Ferries sails every evening between Europoort in Rotterdam and Hull in both directions; the crossing takes around 11 to 12 hours, departing in the evening and arriving the following morning. The sister ships Pride of Hull and Pride of Rotterdam are in service, with cabins, restaurants, bars, a cinema and a duty-free shop. It's the most northerly of the North Sea crossings, putting you straight into Yorkshire without a drive through southern England or the Channel ports. Location and getting there by car
The ferry terminal is at King George Dock on the east side of the city, around 5 kilometres from the centre; set your sat nav to P&O Ferries Hull, Terminal 1, King George Dock, Hedon Road, Hull, HU9 5PS. Coming from Leeds and Manchester, the M62 becomes the A63, which takes you through Hull to Hedon Road; from there, King George Dock is signposted. From the north and York, you reach Hull via the A1079 and continue on the A63 towards the port. At the terminal, stay in your assigned lane and follow staff directions; vehicles check in at the drive-through desks without entering the building.
By rail and as a foot passenger
Hull Paragon Interchange station is around 5 kilometres from the terminal and has direct Hull Trains services from London King's Cross in around 2.5 hours, as well as trains from Leeds, York, Manchester and Sheffield. P&O Ferries runs a shuttle bus between Hull Paragon and the terminal, which you add when booking; a taxi takes around 15 minutes. Foot passengers check in inside the terminal building, where the check-in desks and passport control are on the ground floor, then board via a passenger walkway. Check-in, parking and terminal
Check-in closes 90 minutes before departure for all travellers; with a motorhome or a pet, arrive a little earlier, since vehicle dimensions and pet documents are checked. If you're leaving your car in Hull, park right at the terminal and pay via the RingGo app or phone line using location code 2315; park without a ticket and you risk a fine. Attended long-stay car parks with a shuttle for foot passengers are available nearby. The terminal itself has seating areas, accessible toilets and baby-changing rooms; catering is on board.
Arrival and onward travel from Hull
Disembarkation begins around 15 minutes after docking. Hull itself is worth a stop: The Deep aquarium sits where the River Hull meets the Humber, the Old Town with its Museums Quarter and the marina are within walking distance of the centre, and the Humber Bridge to the west of the city was for many years the longest single-span suspension bridge in the world. By car, the A63 and M62 put you in Leeds in around an hour, the A1079 gets you to York in about an hour and to Manchester in a good 1.5 hours; the Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors and the coast around Whitby are all within reach for a day trip. Heading north to Scotland, follow the A1 to reach Edinburgh in around four hours. By rail from Hull Paragon, York is an hour away and London around 2.5 hours.
