Route guide
The Rotterdam-Hull ferry at a glance
Everything about the Rotterdam-Hull route with P&O Ferries: getting to the Europoort terminal, check-in times, on-board facilities, vehicle and pet rules, and onward travel from Hull.
Getting there and the Europoort terminal
The ferry departs from the Europoort Ferry Terminal, around 38 kilometres (24 miles) west of Rotterdam city centre - the port is not reachable on foot. Set your sat nav for P&O Ferries, Luxemburgweg 2, 3198 LG Europoort (berth number 5805). By motorway, follow the signs for Europoort, then within the port area the signs for "Engeland" and "P&O Ferries". Parking is available right at the terminal.
Public transport does not run to the terminal at Europoort. P&O Ferries offers a bus transfer instead, which you can add when booking; it runs between Europoort and Amsterdam as well as Rotterdam. If you are travelling as a foot passenger, this transfer is the easiest way to reach the port.
Check-in and departure
At Europoort, check-in opens at 16:00 and boarding begins at 17:00. For all passengers, check-in closes at the latest 90 minutes before departure - allow enough time for security checks and busy periods. Foot passengers and those travelling by bike also check in at least 90 minutes beforehand.
You will need a valid passport to enter the UK. On the return journey into the EU, the new Entry/Exit System (EES) has applied since 12 October 2025: on your first crossing after that date, your fingerprint and a photo are taken on arrival at Europoort; after that, a brief ID check is all that is needed.
On board
The two sister ships Pride of Rotterdam and Pride of Hull operate the route. Both offer en-suite cabins in several categories - from Standard through Premier and Club to the State Room, all with a shower and toilet. For food and drink there is the à la carte restaurant The Brasserie, the buffet The Kitchen, a Costa coffee bar and several bars; WiFi is free throughout.
For entertainment there are two cinema screens, a casino, duty-free shopping and live entertainment. You can also get travel money on board via the bureau de change: with the "reserve and collect" service you reserve your currency online and pick it up on the ship.
Vehicle, bike and pets
You can bring a car, motorbike, motorhome, caravan, van or bike, with no baggage limit. If you are travelling by motorhome, tips are covered in our motorhome guide. As with foot passengers, cyclists check in at least 90 minutes before departure.
Pets are welcome on board: dogs, cats and ferrets can travel, and recognised guide and assistance dogs travel free. Your pet stays in an air-conditioned kennel or a dog-friendly cabin - pets may not remain in the vehicle during the overnight crossing. A maximum of five dogs is allowed per booking, and breeds banned in the UK are not carried. Full details, including entry requirements, are in our Dogs & pets guide.
Arrival in Hull and onward travel
Disembarkation begins around 15 minutes after arrival - worth factoring in when planning your onward journey. Hull itself is worth a stop, whether at The Deep aquarium, its museums or the waterfront. From here, York, Leeds, Manchester, the Yorkshire coast, the Lake District and Scotland are all within easy reach by car or train.
If you would rather experience just the ship and a day in Hull, our mini-cruise guide covers the two-night option on board.
Tickets and fares
P&O Ferries offers the crossing on three fares. The Standard ticket is the cheapest, non-refundable fare, with amendment fees if you make changes. Standard Flexi comes with no amendment fee - if you miss your departure, you only pay the price difference - and is refundable for a cancellation fee. Fully Flexi is fully refundable and lets you switch to any available departure.
Booking early usually gets you the best price. Children under four travel free. The current from-price for your travel date is shown in the booking window.
